About

Moulton Village Festival has been a family favourite for over 50 years. With the first Moulton Festival taking place in 1972, we believe that our village festival is unique as it represents a whole village rather than just one or two organisations. Originally, the Village Festival was born to raise funds for the refurbishment of the Bells at the Parish Church. The Vicar, Revd. Roy Cattell and Barry Care, the Captain of the Bellringers, came up with the idea to hold a Village Festival that combined and enlarged the existing village traditions: the May Queen, the Carnival Parade, and the annual Church Fete.

Today, the Festival has evolved into a much greater attraction, welcoming visitors from across the county, bringing everyone together to celebrate the start of the Summer season. There’s music, song and dance, craft markets, art exhibitions, the may cart procession and of course, the carnival parade. As a great day out for the whole family, there are a whole load of fun activities for everyone of all ages to enjoy.

Many villagers are unaware of how the Festival is organised and it often comes as a surprise that there is no planning committee. Moulton Village Festival has been run by volunteers from the local community for all of its history. The programme results from repeating traditional activities organised by various members of our community, plus events resulting from offers made by organisations and individuals.

Our Festival has become the great event it is today due to the desire of our great community to come together and keep these traditions going. Everyone is encouraged to contribute ideas or to undertake responsibility for an event or activity.

The Moulton Festival Team, all unpaid volunteers, co-ordinate the publicity and obtain all necessary permissions, licenses, insurances, etc. Moulton Village Festival needs an income of around £4,000 per year to cover all of the above costs, and with additional licenses and permissions needed this is increasing each year. If you wish to run a stall to help towards our expenses, or an event where funds raised can be shared towards our costs, we will be grateful.

The Moulton Village Festival accounts will be published in the Moulton Scene each Autumn.
