The Carnival

The carnival is one of the most anticipated events at the Moulton Village festival, taking place every year at 2pm. It is a lively and colourful parade that showcases the creative and imaginative floats built by the local community. Everyone is encouraged to participate in building a float, whether it be a trailer, tractor, modified car, or just walking. The parade makes its way through the centre of Moulton village, with music and entertainment along the way. It’s a great opportunity for people to come together and celebrate the community spirit, and for visitors to witness the spectacle of the carnival. Don’t miss out on this exciting event!

What can you expect to see this year?

Moulton Morris Dancers

Morris dancing is a folk dance that has been performed in England for centuries, and involves the use of bells, sticks, and handkerchiefs. It is believed to have originated as a ritualistic dance to bring about good luck and fertility for the coming harvest season. The Moulton Morris Men team continues to keep this age-old tradition alive and entertaining for modern audiences. Each year, Moulton invites several guest teams from all over the country to perform on our streets.

The May Queen

The May queen is a young girl who is crowned as the symbolic representation of spring and new beginnings. At the Moulton Village Festival, the May queen is crowned at 10:00am in the Public Gardens and will ride the Maycart throughout the day. This tradition has taken place in the village even before the Festival, and Moulton continues to carry this tradition into the 21st century.

Local Youth Clubs

Local youth groups such as the 21st Northampton Boys Brigade play a significant role in the Moulton Village Festival’s Carnival Parade. These groups provide an opportunity for young people to showcase their skills, creativity, and teamwork while being a part of a community celebration. It’s a great way for them to get involved and make lasting memories while contributing to the festival’s success.

The Famous Driving Sofa

The self-driving sofa is a unique and quirky custom-built motor vehicle that resembles a sofa on wheels. Powered by an engine, it is a popular feature in the Moulton Village Festival’s Carnival Parade. It’s a fun and entertaining addition that never fails to make people smile and adds to the Festival’s eclectic mix of floats and vehicles.

Farm Vehicles

The Moulton College tractor and trailer is a beloved part of the Moulton Village festival’s carnival procession. This massive float is far larger than any other in the procession, making it a favourite among children. It’s a symbol of the local college’s support for the festival and its commitment to the community.

and much more…

The carnival is a beloved tradition that continues to delight and entertain visitors of all ages. However, with endless possibilities, we believe that it can be even bigger, better, and brighter this year. We encourage everyone to get involved with their creative ideas and contribute to making the carnival a spectacular event. From designing unique floats to performing musical acts and dances, there are countless ways to participate and make a lasting impact. We are excited to see the community come together and make this year’s carnival the best one yet!
